Red carpet rolled out at Ashburton Public Library
People visiting the Ashburton Public Library today were treated to some movie glitz and glamour when staff dressed up for their turn on the red carpet.
The library is running online craft sessions during the school holidays. Children are encouraged to collect take-home packs, then join in the Facebook sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
When they come to collect a take-home pack, they can dress up have their photo taken on the red carpet, just like library staff today. There’s also a green screen so people can have their photo taken with their favourite celebrity or movie character.
The session on Monday 11 October is about creating your own Oscar Award. Wednesday centres on all the essentials for a high tea, from doilies to recipes for scones and rice bubble slice.
Friday’s craft session has a popcorn theme and is about encouraging young people to come to the library and borrow one of the DVDs from the library collection.
Community Services Group Manager Steve Fabish said that the whole family could then sit down and enjoy a movie night.
“The Facebook craft sessions during the first week of the holidays have been really popular and people have enjoyed them. We’re hoping youngsters, and their families, will get a kick out of week two and embrace the movie theme.”
Mr Fabish said all the craft sessions were recorded and could be replayed if people couldn’t watch live. One of the sessions this week was about how to make a pin-hole camera.
“Everything you need is in the take-home pack, so pop into the library and grab one.”
