Properties on Dromore supply asked to conserve water
Properties on the Dromore water supply are asked to conserve water on Monday 24 June, when contractors will replace a pump at the Dromore water treatment plant.
The work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm.
Infrastructure and Open Spaces Group Manager Neil McCann said the old bore pump was installed nearly 20 years ago and was now causing problems for the supply, which has around 80 connections.
“A new pump will be installed by contractors and that will also be compatible with a wider upgrade at the Dromore plant in the next 12 months, to improve UV treatment and comply with new national water quality rules.
“Most properties in the supply will have storage and there will be water in the reservoir, but we are still asking that people on the Dromore supply limit water use to essential purposes only on Monday.”
A 30,000-litre water tanker will be at the plant to keep the reservoir full.
Essential use includes drinking, flushing toilets, washing and cooking. Non-essential use includes activities like watering gardens or washing cars.
“We expect the work to be completed in a day and properties will still have water, though we are asking them to use less. The work is necessary to make sure the treatment plant runs as it should,” Mr McCann said.
