Council services over Matariki long weekend 2024

The public holiday on Friday 28 June to celebrate Matariki will see temporary changes to some Council services and facilities.

Kerbside Rubbish and Recycling

Council’s kerbside collection service will not be affected by the public holiday on Friday 28 June, so people whose bins are normally emptied on a Friday should put them out for collection as usual by 7.30am.

Resource Recovery Parks

The Ashburton Resource Recovery Park will be open Friday, from 9am-5pm. It will be open its usual hours 9am-5pm on Saturday and on Sunday.

Rakaia Resource Recovery Park will be closed on Friday.

Ashburton Library

The Ashburton Library will be closed on Friday, but open as usual on Saturday and Sunday (10am-4pm).

Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum

The Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum will be open 10-4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The facility is currently showing an exhibition of selected works from the Ashburton Society of Arts. It is to co-incide with the society’s 2024 annual exhibition, which opens to the public on 2 July – this popular exhibition will be on until 26 July.

On Saturday 29 June, the art gallery and museum will be hosting a Matariki seed-bomb making event, from 2pm-4pm.

The museum’s Home Front Heroines exhibition will wrap up on 30 June, so if you want to learn more about the efforts of the land girls at home during World War Two, then only a few days remain.

EA Networks Centre

EA Networks Centre will be open Friday from 10am-5pm. It will operate usual hours on Saturday and Sunday from 7am-7pm.

There are no swimming lessons on Friday; Saturday’s lessons are as normal.

Customer Services

Council’s administration services in Te Whare Whakatere at Baring Square East will close at 5pm on Thursday 27 June and re-open at 8.30am on Monday 1 July.

If you have a problem or urgently need to contact us, then the afterhours/24 hours-a-day service will be operating - please phone 03 307 7700.

Emails, Snap Send Solves and website requests will be cleared when the office opens for business as usual on Monday.

The iHub at Mt Hutt Memorial Hall in Methven will be open on Friday from 10am-2pm, and then its usual weekend hours.

Public toilets around the district will be open daily as usual over the long weekend.
