EA Networks Centre is looking forward to hosting Mid Canterbury Netball for events during its centenary celebration weekend on 13-14 October.

Centre manager Richard Wood said netball had been a key partner at the facility since it opened in 2015 and hundreds of netball games were played there each season.

“Mid Canterbury Netball moved its entire programme indoors when the centre opened and its administrators also became tenants at Sports House. We love having the whole netball community under our roof and it’s a sport that is well patronised.

“Our team really enjoys supporting netball across all its programmes and we congratulate them on reaching this milestone. We look forward to being part of the centenary events and to hosting netball games for many more years to come.”

EA Networks Centre will host games of walking netball on Saturday 14 October, and a skills session run by former Silver Fern Anna Harrison.

Celebrations also include a centenary dinner at the Hotel Ashburton that night.

Mid Canterbury Netball manager Erin Tasker said walking netball was great fun and players of all ages and abilities could play alongside each other.

“You don’t have to be coming to the centenary to come along to the walking netball on Saturday. That’s open to anyone to come and have a go from 1-2pm.

“It’s just another chance for people to get together and have some fun over the weekend and get a bit of physical activity, as well as showcasing the awesome venue that Mid Canterbury Netball now calls home, the EA Networks Centre.”

Erin said all four courts were booked for the walking netball and there was no need to register - just come along and join in.

“And once that’s done, we’ve got our guest speaker for the evening’s event, Anna Harrison, coming along to run a skills session for kids in Year 5-6 and Year 7-8, with the help of our Mid Canterbury Netball Youth Advisory Group.

“The whole weekend is about celebrating 100 years of netball in Mid Canterbury and you don’t have to have played reps to come along – this is about celebrating all people who’ve been involved in netball in Mid Canterbury over the years.

“If you played for a club, umpired, coached, have been a bench official or a volunteer, this centenary weekend is a chance for you to get some friends together for a fun night out full of reminiscing about days gone by.”
