MAYOR: Time to cheer and celebrate our people
They say that celebrating achievements fuels energy for achieving more success.
It isn’t always easy to carve out the time to celebrate success, but Ashburton District has a lot to celebrate, and a lot to be proud of.
Last week I attended the launch of the ANZ Business of the Year Awards 2024.
The Ashburton Event Centre was buzzing with local business ambition and talent, with people from many industries and representing all sizes, from mini to macro.
These many minds are the driving force behind our district’s prosperity and it’s inspiring to celebrate their achievements.
This will be the second biennial awards ceremony to celebrate excellence and give our high-achieving businesses a pat on the back for their creativity and passion.
Nominations for 15 categories are now open for the February awards and winners will be announced at a gala evening next year at the Ashburton Aviation Museum.
Another important celebration open for nominations is our Community Honours Awards.
These awards publicly recognise outstanding individuals or organisations who have not been recognised through their own sector awards.
There are many incredible people who selflessly donate their time for the benefit of others - from organisations such as school boards; managing or coaching sporting teams; assisting with church activities; conservation projects; helping in the health, elderly or social service sector; being a leader or helper with a youth organisation; or giving time in art, culture or heritage.
The awards are available in three categories; Mayor's Award for Public Service, Ashburton Medal, and Civic Awards. Recipients will be honoured at a special ceremony on 29 September.
It’s important we show volunteers our appreciation because without their contributions, many of the activities or services we enjoy would not happen.
If you know someone who you think is deserving, please nominate them by Friday 25 August.
So Ashburton District, let’s cheer for our local people.
