Chalmers Avenue watermain renewal about to begin
Chalmers Avenue residents and people who travel along the avenue may experience some disruption in the next few weeks while contractors lay new water pipes on the south-bound lane between Wellington and Dobson Streets.
Heavy machinery will be involved in the work and a speed restriction of 30km/h will be enforced along the avenue to ensure the safety of the public and contract workers.
Temporary traffic control will be in place, including temporary lane closures, detours and parking restrictions at times. Heavy traffic will have to detour.
Infrastructure and Open Spaces Group Manager Neil McCann said a letter advising affected residents of the work had been dropped into letterboxes and they would be kept informed if access to properties was affected at times.
“Replacing water pipes is an important part of keeping our drinking water network safe and reliable and while the work is in the footpath space, there will be diggers and other large machines moving about in the wider work zone.
“We thank everyone in advance for complying with site restrictions while we put the new pipes in and replace connections to properties.”
The work is planned to begin on Monday 15 May.
