Boil water notice for Methven lifted 31 July
Council has today lifted its boil water notice for the Methven water supply.
The notice was imposed on 23 July after heavy rain, which resulted in high turbidity in the water supply.
The Methven water treatment plant is now operating normally and has returned consecutive days of clear testing, leading to the lifting of the boil water notice at 2.15pm today (Monday 31 July).
Meanwhile, work on the town’s new membrane water treatment plant is nearing completion; commissioning gets under way on 7 August with the testing of electrical components and water pipes and connections.
The plant will undergo full operation testing at the end of August, and then start trial operations.
The $10 million water supply upgrade to include membrane equipment means turbid water that often occurs after a big rain event will be able to be treated, as the membrane filters out 99.9 per cent of micro-sized contaminants and allows normal UV disinfection to occur.
