Waka Kotahi night works planned on SH1/West Street

Motorists can expect some disruption on State Highway 1 through Ashburton at night next week when Waka Kotahi contractors lay new asphalt.

Moore Street between East and West/SH1 will be closed at night from 7pm until 6am on Sunday 22 May and Monday 23 May, and West Street/SH1 will be under stop/go control from Moore Street to Tancred Street while the old highway surface is removed and new asphalt laid.

The railway line section of Moore Street, between East and West/SH1 will be open again during the day.

A section of West Street/SH1 at the Saunders Road intersection will be affected from 7pm until 6am on Tuesday 24 May and Wednesday 25 May.

Saunders Road will be closed between Russell Avenue and SH1 during the night work, and open again during the day.

Waka Kotahi says that because the highway is so busy, the work must be done at night. People can expect some noise and may notice vibration and bright lights. Traffic through the stop/go sections will be at 30km/h, and emergency services will have access at all times.
