Library helps grow digital confidence

Need help getting to grips with online shopping and banking? Or want to know more about Facebook or other apps?

Then the Ashburton Public Library has a digital class for you this month!

In April, the library will be running free digital classes for adult beginners on Tuesdays and digital classes for seniors on Thursdays.

Library manager Jill Watson said the participants could choose one or more of the classes, which were designed to teach new skills and build confidence using a computer, smartphone, tablet and the internet.

“Being online is such a big part of life these days, from carrying out business to connecting with family in other parts of the country, or the world.”

The classes cover subjects like suitable digital devices, hobbies, options for connecting to the internet and online services for shopping and banking.

Participants will also learn about protecting their privacy and keeping safe online.

The Digital Steps classes are for any adult who wants to develop better digital skills for life or work, while the Digital Futures classes are for those aged 65 and over seeking help going online.
