Council services over Queen's Birthday weekend
Some of our services and operating hours will change temporarily for Queen’s Birthday this weekend, as Monday 6 June is a public holiday.
If you’re travelling around town or on the highways, Waka Kotahi is also reminding people to take care.
Northbound traffic on State Highway One between Ashburton and Christchurch is expected to be busy on Friday between 2.30pm and 6.30pm, and again on Monday between 12pm and 7pm. Traffic will be at its heaviest between 2.30pm and 6.30pm Monday.
Southbound traffic will be busiest on Friday, for most of the day.
Rubbish and Recycling
The Ashburton Resource Recovery Park will operate as normal on Saturday and Sunday (9am-5pm), but will be closed on Monday. The Rakaia Resource Recovery Park will also be closed Monday.
There will be no changes to the district’s kerbside collection on Monday 6 June, so put your wheelie bins out as usual by 7.30am.
Ashburton Public Library
The library is open Saturday 10am-1pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm. It will be closed on Monday 6 June.
If you’re interested in taking part in the library’s winter reading challenge, then now is a good time to start. You’ll be asked to step outside your comfort zone in pursuit of new books!
Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum
The heritage complex is open on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 10am-4pm.
Visit the art gallery to check out gift, an eclectic group exhibition centred on the concept of gift-giving. The exhibition presents a series of artworks that relate to unique and personal stories of giving.
The museum’s popular autumn exhibition is in its final days so if you want to learn how agates formed in our Mid Canterbury hills over millions of years, then head down before it closes on Sunday.
Council office
The Baring Square West office will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
If you have a problem or urgently need to contact us, then the afterhours/24 hours-a-day service is operational - please phone 03 307 7700.
Emails, Snap Send Solves and website requests will be cleared Tuesday morning.
EA Networks Centre
The courts in the stadium will be fully used all weekend for an under 16 representative netball tournament and members of the public are welcome to come and watch the action. The 2022 Tupuranga Championships are being hosted by Mid Canterbury Netball and the Christchurch Netball Centre, and three local rep teams are among those taking part in the three-day contest.
The rest of the facility, the aquatic area and the gymnasium, is open Saturday and Sunday 7am-5pm, and on Monday 10am-5pm.
