Water pipe renewals starting in Hinds

Published: 23 November 2020

Hinds residents are being advised to be mindful of contractors working in their neighbourhood from Wednesday this week (25 November) as the Council begins renewing the town's drinking water pipes.

Ashburton Contracting Ltd (ACL), working on behalf of the Council will be renewing the water pipes along Rhode Street, Bennett Street and Rogers Street which involves replacing the water main and connecting it to properties.

Due to the nature of the work, access to properties on these roads may be temporarily restricted, but Council Infrastructure Services Group Manager Neil McCann says the contractor will be doing their best to minimise this inconvenience as much as possible.

"There will be speed restrictions and occasional 'no parking' signs in place, and we just ask that if work is happening on your street, please take care and drive carefully.

"We regularly monitor our drinking water infrastructure and as the pipes approach the end of their serviceable life, we replace them - which is the case for Hinds.

"The new pipes will make sure Hinds has continued safe access to drinking water for years to come. We really appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time," Mr McCann adds.

Residents with any concerns about the work or access to their properties are encouraged to contact ACL on 03 308 4039.

The Hinds water pipeline renewals are programmed to finish on 20 January 2021.
