Rural roads on receiving end of rehabilitations

Published: 14 February 2020

More than 3km of local roads around the Ashburton District have been dug up, strengthened and sealed so far this construction season, with favourable warm weather helping to keep the rehabilitation programme on track.

Work to rebuild 900m of Fords Road on the outskirts of Tinwald has recently finished, with the contractors, Ashburton Contracting Limited (ACL) working hard after the Christmas/New Year period to make final touches.

Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road, one of the district's busiest routes for local and through traffic, has also had a 2.12km section rebuilt for drivers.

Roading continues to be one of the Council's biggest budget priorities, and at more than 2,600km in length, it's the third largest rural roading network in the country.

Most construction, including resurfacing and rehabilitation is completed in the warmer months to allow for the new seal to set.
