Residents invited to Speed Limit Review Open Day

Published: 13 February 2020

Ashburton District residents wishing to provide feedback on the Council's proposed speed limit changes to local roads are being invited to an Open Day on Monday 17 February.

The Council is conducting a Speed Limit Review of local roads and has put forward several speed changes that it would like community feedback on. The review is open for consultation until 8 March.

Ashburton District Mayor Neil Brown says it has been wonderful to see a lot of interest in the review and is encouraging residents to come along to the Open Day where they'll be able to ask questions and talk to staff.

"Our local roads are very important to the community and it's vital that we ensure they have the right speeds in place to get people to their destinations safely. We are welcoming feedback from everyone to make sure we get this right.

"If you'd like to speak to someone about the proposals, or need more information to form your submission, please come and see us at the Council Chambers on Monday."

The Council last reviewed its road speeds in 2012 and since that time, the district's urban areas have grown and residents have made several speed suggestions to the Council.

The Open Day will happen at the Council Chambers, 131 Havelock Street, Ashburton from 12pm to 6pm on 17 February. Residents can drop in at any time during the Open Day.

Feedback on the Speed Limit Review is welcome until 5pm, Sunday 8 March. The consultation document outlining the proposals is available online at ashburtondc.govt.nz/haveyoursay
