CBD streetscape revitalisation getting underway on Tancred Street

Tancred Street in the Ashburton CBD will be temporarily closed to through-traffic on Monday 8 June, as work gets underway to renew the underground services.
Tru-Line Civil, who are carrying out the CBD Streetscape Revitalisation project on behalf of the Council will be removing a tree and installing a new sewer lateral on the street on Monday. The street will be closed to through-traffic from 7am to 6pm. Pedestrians and business owners will still have access along the street, but parking will be limited.
The contractors have finished renewing the underground services (water, wastewater and stormwater pipelines) along Cass Street, and have begun constructing rain gardens in the area. New kerb and channel as well as a new road surface will be constructed on Cass Street.
Work is now progressing on Tancred Street, with some underground service installation already started during Alert Level Three when many businesses were still closed.
Trenches will be dug along the building frontage of Tancred Street, and as this is done, steel plates will be laid across the trench to allow people to access businesses.
Once all of the underground work has been completed on Tancred Street, the Tru-Line Civil team will begin installing gardens, rain gardens, kerb and channel, footpath and road surfacing, followed by landscaping, street furniture and parking infrastructure.
