Cass Street road closures starting this week - Ashburton CBD

Published: 11 August 2020

Work to connect new stormwater pipes and build raised road pavement on Cass Street will close parts of the Ashburton CBD street this week until the end of the month.

Approximately 80 metres of Cass Street between Mona Square and Tancred Street (not including the Moore Street intersection) will be closed from 7am on 12 August until 6pm Thursday 13 August while new underground pipes are connected to the sump. Moore Street will remain open.

Next week (17 August) the Cass Street/Moore Street intersection will also be closed to through-traffic while the Council's contractor, Tru-Line Civil raises the pavement of the intersection. The raised pavement will help indicate to drivers that they are entering a 30km zone in the CBD. The new speed limit will help to achieve the vision of a more pedestrian and cycle-friendly environment.

The intersection will be closed from 7am Monday 17 August until 6pm Friday 28 August. Traffic will be able to enter Moore Street from either Chalmers Avenue or East Street, but will be unable to travel from one end to the other. Detour routes will be in place.

The work is part of the Council's $15 million CBD streetscape upgrades.
