Ashburton District facilities not closing

The Ashburton District Council's community facilities will remain open to the public at this stage, but residents are advised that this decision will continue to be evaluated regularly as needed, as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
The EA Networks Centre, Ashburton Public Library, Art Gallery & Heritage Centre, Council Administration building and the Ashburton Event Centre, will continue to operate at their normal advertised opening hours.

These guidelines include measures that restrict mass gatherings and events of 500 or more people outdoors and 100 or more indoors, and promotes physical distancing of at least 1 metre.
"The Council is closely monitoring this fast-evolving situation and acting on the best advice available for our community's safety. We want the community to be able to safely access our local facilities for as long as they can. At this stage, we are well within the guidelines to remain open.
"Although we're aware of a number of larger councils deciding to close their facilities, ours do not meet the guideline measures. That being said, I strongly urge residents to follow the sensible precautions we have put in place, which means staying home and away from these centres if you are feeling unwell.
"Every decision we make concerning public safety during this time is done with the upmost consideration of expert Government advice. Evaluation on this decision around our facilities is ongoing, and we will update residents regularly," Mayor Brown says
