Our Place : Our Plan – Early engagement

Across August and September last year we ran the Our Place : Our Plan survey to find out the what our communities priorities were for the future of our district.

We asked our community to rank eight categories in order of priority – we also asked this question three years ago so we have been able to compare the responses. The main change, is the second bridge development which has moved from 5th position to 3rd. We have also changed ‘New entertainment centres’ to ‘Recreation and entertainment’ to better reflect the responses we received. This includes topics such as entertainment centres, parks, sport development, and walking and cycling trails.

We also asked whether you would like us to: do more, less, or about the same, in each of the priority areas.

Roading and second bridge development were clear priority areas where our community would like more work undertaken.

Community safety, environment, and business development were areas that a high proportion of our community (around 50-55%) were happy with the work that is being undertaken, although a significant proportion (around 40-45%) would like to see more in these areas.

For town centre development and EA Networks Centre development there was a clear majority for continuing with the current level of work and development.

For new entertainment centres, the responses were split - almost one-third each saying to do less, or to do more work, with slightly more saying to continue with what we are currently doing.

Annual Residents’ Survey

Each year we undertake a survey to measure how satisfied our residents are with the services and activities we provide. We take these results, and all the written comments provided, and use them to guide how we deliver our services.

This past year, Key Research conducted the survey for us. 950 responses were received, at four time points across the year.

A few highlights include:

  • 95% of residents think Ashburton district is a great place to live
  • 84% agree that the district is going in the right direction
  • 80% trust Council to do the right thing
