Opening: Land, Sea and Air | Sharing Histories

About the event
Join us for the opening of two new exhibitions!
In Land, Sea and Air, the stories of four Whakatere Ashburton locals who served during the Second World War will be shared. Explore the lives of a bicycle shop apprentice, a private nurse, a farm labourer, and a hospital office clerk; these are some of our people who put themselves in danger during the Second World War, to aid, and to fight for the freedom of others, each in their own way.
Sharing Histories is an annual exhibition of the previous year’s new treasures. The objects, archives and photographs on display are a selection of items that were assessed, accepted and preserved by our collections team in 2024. Although these items have all been collected for their significance to the Whakatere Ashburton region, each item has its own unique history to share.
This opening will feature talks by Land, Sea and Air curator and archivist Connor Lysaght, and Senior Curator Maryann Cowan.
